Sponsor an Ex Lab animal

At BFA we want every animal to have the best possible chance at a new life. So when an animal comes to us and has a special need, an existing medical condition or just needs some extra time to adjust, we make sure to cover the costs and provide everything we possibly can. Giving their new family peace of mind so that they can concentrate on loving them and teaching them about their new world.

We call these special needs animals ‘Forever Fosters’.  Once they have been fully vet checked, and temperament tested, we place them with an appropriate new family or with one of our existing foster families. Then we keep in close contact and make sure we are there to help with everything we possibly can.

Below are some of the current Forever Fosters that you can sponsor. Each payment you make will go directly towards their ongoing care and will ensure that we can continue to offer this program for animals just like them.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles was 9 and half when he arrived at BFA, a nervous little beagle boy who is in permanent foster care at HQ as he learns to cope with the outside world. Released to us in late 2022, he is a sensitive boy, and is not used to being around people. Wrinkles loves to watch us humans and follows us everywhere we go. We like to think it’s because he loves us, but it’s probably so that he knows what we are up to! He is unsure of new people and barks at them until he can safely find his safe spot in the kitchen. To cope with this, Wrinkles is having ongoing training and desensitisation daily and is on behaviour modifying medication to help him relax while he learns.

Your generous sponsorship will go towards that training, medication and ongoing costs of care and is a vital part the work we do at Beagle Freedom Australia.

Chloe

Chloe is a 12 year old domestic shorthaired cat. She came to us from a research facility in 2021. Since shortly after that, she has been living with one of our forever foster families. Chloe is a smoochy little girl and just loves to snuggle with her foster canines! She is full of personality and very loved. She has issues with her digestion and needs ongoing vet checks as well as special food.

Thanks to your amazing generosity, we can provide this for her, for the rest of her life. To ensure that she always has the best care possible and never goes without the advanced medical care that she needs, while taking the financial burden off her family.

Casey

Casey was 5 and half when she arrived at BFA, a sweet little beagle girl who is in permanent foster care at HQ as she learns to cope with the outside world. Released to us in early 2019, she is a sensitive and loving girl but is not used to being around people. Casey loves her foster humans and all the other dogs that she meets, but when new people come to visit, she gets so scared and wants to run away as far as she can. To cope with this, Casey, along with Wrinkles, is having training and desensitisation daily and is on behaviour modifying medication to help her relax while she learns.

Your generous sponsorship will go towards that training, medication and ongoing costs of care and is a vital part the work we do at Beagle Freedom Australia.

Lily

Lily is a senior feline lady! She is a bob-tailed domestic shorthaired cat with one of the biggest personalities we’ve ever seen! She is loveable in every way.

When she arrived into care in 2021 at the age of 12, she was extremely over weight. She had struggled with her weight for her whole life. Her initial blood tests showed no medical reason for this and with some special food, we were able to bring her weight down to a healthy level. So, to ensure she never finds the weight she lost, we added Lily to our sponsorship program, this way we can provide her new family with special food and regular vet visits, weigh-ins and blood tests to make sure she is always healthy.

Lily is a happy and very expressive girl who’s favourite past time is sitting in whatever cardboard box she can find!

Timmy

Timmy is a 13 year old beagle boy, released to us from a research facility in 2021.

Timmy suffers from a condition known as Pica, where he eats and swallows things he shouldn’t, to a point where it is dangerous for his health. He has had one surgery so far, to remove a foreign object form his intestines.

On top of this condition, during his surgery, a large mass was found inside, wrapped around all his organs. At this point it’s non-cancerous, but that could change at any point. It’s too entwined with his insides to be removed, so he is staying in forever care, where we can closely monitor his health.

So, Timmy requires special food, as well as meds for age related arthritis, and regular vet visits. For this reason he has become part of our sponsorship program.

Despite all of this, Timmy is the happiest, funniest and most friendly boy we’ve ever met!

Keryn

Keryn was 9 years old when she was released into our care in 2024. Keryn has some health challenges, including respiratory issues that need careful, ongoing management. Her foster family provides her with all the love, warmth, and security she deserves, while we step in to cover her medical needs to ensure she stays happy and comfortable.

Through sponsorship, you can help us support Keryn’s health journey, from regular vet check-ups to specialist respiratory care and medications. This support allows Keryn’s foster family to focus on what matters most—giving her all the love and attention she needs without the worry of vet bills or treatment costs.

By sponsoring Keryn, you’re directly contributing to her quality of life, ensuring she has everything needed to stay healthy and loved. Together, we can make a lasting difference for Keryn, helping her to thrive in her golden years.

Armani

Armani is a sweet and snuggly little girl. She came to us from a facility in 2023 at the age of 5, with a suspected heart condition. After lots of diagnostic tests, including a heart ultrasound, we were able to confirm that she indeed suffers from Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

This is a condition where one of her heart chambers is severely thickened and the flow of blood through her heart is compromised. She is at a high risk of developing a blood clot. So she is staying in our foster program and we will continue to monitor her closely and keep her comfortable for as long as she has left. All funds raised for Armani will go towards paying for her medications and ongoing specialist vet care.

Freckle

Freckle is an 11 year old beagle boy who was released from a research facility in 2016. He has lived in forever foster care at HQ ever since.

Freckle stayed at HQ because he was quite an anxious boy and needed to be heavily sedated just for something as simple as a nail clip.  So he stayed and we’ve been helping him to desensitise and cope with the world ever since.

He recently suffered from a thoracic neck injury. There was no warning or trauma, he simply lost all control of his lower half one evening.  After strict rest for 8+ weeks he has improved significantly. Due to his anxiety, he was not a candidate for surgery. He is now living his life to the fullest everyday as the boss beagle of the house.

Wynston

Wynston is a 12 year old foxhound boy. Like all foxhounds, he is adorable, cheeky and completely loveable. He lives with his forever foster family and we continue to be his safety net for life. We provide him with all the vet care he needs.

Being an older boy when he arrived into our care, he had the usual arthritis aches and pains, he is also a very sensitive and anxious boy and has some spondylosis happening in his spine too.

With all of this happening we make sure to take the burden of medical bills away from his family so that he had the best chance of finding the perfect place to retire in. He is very loved and a bit spoilt! But we wouldn’t want it any other way. Thanks to the people who support our sponsor program, we can keep providing this care to many of our ex-research animals.

Buttons

Released in October of 2021, Buttons was 8 years old and has got issues with his knees. Both of Button’s knees require a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery for torn cranial cruciate ligaments in both legs (ACL). This is an intense surgery where they cut the bone in his knee, adjust it and pin it back together in a different position with metal plates and screws. It immediately stabilises the knee and eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely. This is a costly procedure (approx $3,500 per leg) and takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and physio.

Your donation for Buttons will help us to provide this costly and life saving surgery for him. as well as any ongoing care that he might need in the future. We will be his safety net for the rest of his life. He lives with his forever foster family and has 2 other beagle siblings. They all get along and are very bonded and well loved.

Kiwi

Kiwi is an adorable and happy little beagle boy, he was released to us in August of 2021. Kiwi is 11 years old and has congenital disorder called cerebellar hypoplasia, it affects how his brain communicates with the rest of his body. This is something that he was born with and not a result of his time in research.

As a result of this disorder, he is a bit wobbly and unsteady on his feet. But it doesn’t stop him from being a typical beagle! He loves to play and explore. He is staying in our forever foster program so that we can help his family with ongoing vet visits to the specialist neurological vet team. He will need frequent monitoring to make sure that he doesn’t decline in any way. Your donation to Kiwi will help us keep him as happy and healthy as can be.

Emma

Released in April of 2021, Emma is a  happy, loving and snuggly Foxhound girl. She is 12 years old now and has got issues with her knees. Emma’s knees will require a Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery for torn cranial cruciate ligaments in both legs (ACL). This is an intense surgery where they cut the bone in her knee, adjust it and pin it back together in a different position with metal plates and screws. It immediately stabilises the knee and eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely. This is a costly procedure (approx $5,000+ per leg, for a large breed like Emma) and takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and physio.

Your donation for Emma will help us to provide this costly and life saving surgery for her as well as all of her ongoing recovery care, medications and any other issues she may have in her lifetime.

A Visit to

Rainbow bridge

It’s a sad fact of life, that out beloved animal friends can’t and don’t live forever. Below we will picture our sponsor animals who’ve sadly passed away. Some were only here with us for a short time, others longer, but they will never be forgotten by us, or their foster families. You can still make a donation in their name if you would like to. They were loved very deeply by their forever foster families and never lived a day without. If you would like to, you can sign up to be a foster carer or a forever foster carer, we’d love to hear from you.
